Pastor's Note
Missions is More!
Missions? Isn't that when someone goes to a poor country and gives teddy bears, Beanie Babies, and goodies to all the people who live there? Many people fail to recognize that missions is much more than that. To the average person, missions work is something that has rarely crossed their mind. It is something that is so distant from them that they feel as though they have no reason to be concerned with it. Because most people don't get or take the opportunity to go on a missions trip, they think that they never have to worry about it. Having a heart for missions is more than that inevitable teardrop on your face as you watch a video revealing the poverty of some countries. I believe that a heart for missions is something that is placed in certain people by the hand of God. I also believe that missions work is simply sharing God with someone and bringing His joy and fulfillment to their life. Whoever said that missions is something that has to be done outside of the country? Another word for missions is "assignment" and as Christians, our assignment is to bring the joy of the Lord to anyone we can reach. That means that missions work can take place in our own backyard. Inviting someone to church can even be missions work.
Don't be discouraged if you can't go on a missions trip because if you've ever shared God with someone, you are a missionary too. Sure, missionaries are known for handing out teddy bears and other special goodies, but it doesn't stop there. You don't have to be a missionary to have a heart for people who are less fortunate. Some of the greatest supporters of missions are those who have faithfully prayed and given their missions dollars to get the work done here in Orlando and abroad.
On behalf of the Calvary family and our Missions Council, thank you for supporting the call to missions.
If you can't go... send someone.
