Pastoral Staff

H. Robert Rhoden, D.Min.
Robert Rhoden was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 14, 1942. He grew up in Olustee, Florida with his widowed grandmother, Florence Cobb, after his parents were killed in a car accident when he was two years old. By the time he was twelve years of age, Mrs. Cobb was physically unable to care for him, so he went to live with relatives in Jacksonville until he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1958. That same year, his grandmother died.

Following his graduation, Bob went to Toccoa Falls Bible College in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible in 1963. Entering the ministry, he spent the next two years serving as an associate with David Wilkerson, founder of Teen Challenge in New York City, and traveled the east coast conducting evangelistic crusades.

In 1965, Bob became the Assistant Pastor to Pastor Ira Stanphill, at First Assembly of God in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. While serving in this capacity, he attended Elizabethtown College, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religion in 1966. During this time, he met Joan Elaine Hershman, and they were married on January 22, 1966.

To continue his education, the Rhodens moved to Wheaton, Illinois, where Bob earned a Master of Arts degree in New Testament Studies from Wheaton College. Concurrently, he served as youth pastor and interim pastor at Wheaton's First Assembly of God. Bob was ordained by the Penn-Del District of the Assemblies of God in May of 1968.

In 1969, Bob learned about a group of people in Richmond, Virginia that wanted to start a new church. With approval of the Potomac District Presbytery, Bob and Joan planted the West End Assembly of God. Under his guidance, West End Assembly of God experienced steady, continuous, and gifted growth; the congregation mothered five other churches in Richmond, and built eighteen churches in foreign countries.

In 1982, Bob earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Union Theological Seminary of Virginia. He is currently a featured speaker at conferences, seminars, workshops and special meetings. He is the published author of several articles for the development of pastors and church leaders, which have been printed, in the Assemblies of God Enrichment Journal, and a national transdenominational publication, Leadership.

Four Faces of Leadership
Bob is also the author of "Four Faces of a Leader."
Dr. Bob's book is available online and at the Media Ministry Booth before and after Sunday service for $12.00. (Online prices vary).

He served as Superintendent of the Potomac District of the Assemblies of God from 1991 to 2006. Currently he serves on various boards and committees, and is the Non-Resident Executive Presbyter for the Northeast Region of the General Council of the Assemblies of God.

Bob and Joan have three grown children: Julie, Rob and Cindy, and eight grandchildren.
